MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — July 27, 2020

Aspenall Energies (Delaware), LLC (“Aspenall”) announced today its acquisition of a 20 MW operating wind energy project. The project is the second wind energy project owned by Aspenall or affiliates in Jackson County, southwestern Minnesota.

The project began commercial operations in May 2008 and supplies electricity via a power purchase agreement with Northern States Power (NSP), a subsidiary of Xcel Energy. It was originally developed by local landowners and John Deere Energy, and later operated by Exelon Corporation. It consists of ten S88 2.1MW wind turbines manufactured by Suzlon Energy Ltd.

“Our business model relies on strong relationships with local communities and land owners,” said John Brown, Chief Development Officer for Aspenall Energies. “We are excited to add this project to our portfolio and look forward to exploring new opportunities in the region, including the potential repowering of this project, in order to build upon the legacy left by the local landowners and developers.”

The project provides enough electricity to meet the average power needs of 6,000 U.S. households, and offsets approximately 38,000 metric tons of CO2 per year.
